Easton Mass. seniors enjoying “Pickleball” for exercise, fun, being social…

Like many other former active tennis players, I had to give it up about 5 years ago because my body kept breaking down. My back kept flaring up, I had an operation to repair 2 torn meniscus tendons in my knee, I still can’t sleep on my right side because of a shoulder “impingement” and on and on…

About 5 years ago, I heard about pickleball and found a group in Lakeville and another in Sharon where I began to play on a regular basis. Since the court is smaller, about half the size of a tennis court, there was definitely less impact on my body, the competitive part was there again and I was now hooked on Pickleball.

In 2014, I approached the Town of Easton requesting the 2 tennis courts they own be converted to multi-use for Pickleball. Anne Daley, Easton Recreation Director, agreed and Easton Pickleball, now an official Easton Recreation Department program, was born and on it’s way.

We have a core of 65 players who participate outdoors on 4 courts and indoors during the winter at ForeKicks sports complex in Taunton where we play every Monday, Wednesday and friday from 9:30 to 11:30.

If anyone is interested in learning or playing pickleball, join us at Forekicks, 223 Fremont St, Taunton, MA 02780. We will be glad to show you the game and get you jump started.
